On product 08
01Be a professional outsider.
Evaluate the product like a real user, not a proud creator.
02People buy better versions of themselves.
Great products enable the behavior users already want.
03User experience is the business model.
What’s best for the user experience is usually best for the business.
04Start with networks.
Start with a durable network that enables new behaviors, before asking how it makes money.
05Keep digging past the obvious need.
Tools serve tasks, tasks serve goals, goals serve human needs. There is no final layer of insight.
06Users diagnose problems, not solutions.
When someone tells you something is wrong, they’re almost always right. Their proposed fix is another question.
07Simplicity is earned.
True simplicity comes from wrestling with complexity, not skipping it.
08Strategy requires real tradeoffs.
If the opposite path isn’t viable, it isn’t strategy.
On AI 07
01Creativity, judgment, and taste are not moats.
These abilities are not unique to humans. AI can already do them, and will only get better.
02Easier creation means more software.
Every time we make software easier to write, we build more ambitious applications. New tools create demand for more tools.
03Most people don’t want to build their own tools.
They’d rather buy something that works, is higher quality, and requires less maintenance.
04Making something is its own reward.
“It feels good to have made something, no matter what anyone else thinks about it.”
05The interface may no longer be the product.
For many use cases, the UI doesn’t need to exist. Deeply understanding the problem still matters.
06The 80/20 rule is becoming 90/10.
AI gets you almost all the way there. The last 10% can take 90% of the tokens.
07Be prepared to change your mind.
Whatever you think about AI today, be ready to rethink it soon.

03 / ABOUT
A decade in product.
A beginner’s curiosity.
After more than a decade in product, I’ve never felt more empowered to move from idea to working software.
I’m building small apps around personal problems so I can test ideas against reality as quickly as possible. The goal is to experiment broadly, build intuition for how products will be created in an AI-native world, and strengthen what I think of as courageous curiosity: the willingness to try new things before you know where they’ll lead.
